One Year etc

This month marks one year of blogging for me! That is great, Praise the Lord! It has been a great experience and I will continue doing this for the rest of my life.

Last month Blogger was banned for a while from Indian ISPs by the Indian Government after the Mumbai bombings, even so this one's dedicated to the memory to those who lost their lives on the July 11, 2006 train bombings in Mumbai, India and for their family.

Hillsong Conference 2006

So Brazil has lost the World Cup (which makes me sad)!

Anyway, the Hillsong Conference 2006 is on from Sydney,Australia and I saw the first night's session on God TV last night. It will be on untill the 7th of July. Rick Warren's message last night was great, challenging. God bless them!

Update about my life: I am not working anymore, atleast for this month perhaps. It's good maybe I need some rest.

Thinking World Cup again

I've been watching the World Cup. I know! I know! I've made those posts about not watching too much tv and I'm still on it. Journey with me...! Anyway, I've always supported Brazil in the World Cup but watching their first two matches has been is a bit dissapointing even though they're through to the next round. I hope they pick themselves up before it's too late.

Retirement

I'm a long way from retirement, I'm just 23! Besides that, where I live there are not too many nursing homes, I think there's only one and we do care for our elders. But the following plan makes a lot of sense. Interesting prospect, don't you think so? From: http://www.gcfl.net/.

RETIREMENT WITH A GRIN
As I was checking my 401(k) account and thinking about retirement, I saw an article about nursing and retirement homes are.

Then it hit me. No nursing home for me!

Here is my plan: I'm checking into the Holiday Inn.

With the average cost for a nursing home reaching $188 per day, there is a better way when we get old and feeble. I have already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn. For a combined long-term stay discount and senior discount, it's $49.23 per night. That leaves $138.77 a day for breakfast, lunch, dinner in any restaurant I want, or room service. It also will leave enough for laundry, gratuities, and special TV movies. Plus, I'll get a swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge, and washer and dryer. I'll also get free toothpaste, razors, shampoo and soap. And I'll be treated like a customer, not a patient.

Five dollars worth of tips a day will have the entire staff scrambling.

There is a city bus stop out front, and seniors ride free.

The handicap bus will also pick me up if I fake a decent limp. Ride the church bus free on Sundays. For a change of scenery, take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there. While you're at the airport, fly somewhere.

Meanwhile, the cash keeps building up.

It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. On the other hand, Holiday Inn will take your reservation today. And you are not stuck in one place forever -- you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city.

Want to see Hawaii? They have a Holiday Inn there, too.

TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem. They fix everything and apologize for the inconvenience.

The Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks if you are OK. If not, they will call the undertaker or an ambulance. If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life.

And no worries about visits from family. They will always be glad to visit you, and probably check in for a mini-vacation. The grandkids can use the pool. What more can you ask for?

When I discussed my plan with friends, they came up with even more benefits that Holiday Inn provides retirees. Most standard rooms have coffee makers, reclining chairs, and satellite TV -- all you need to enjoy a cozy afternoon.

After a movie and a good nap, you can check on your children (free local phone calls), then take a stroll to the lounge or restaurant where you meet new and exotic people every day.

Many Holiday Inns even feature live entertainment on the weekends. Often they have special offers, too, like the Kids Eat Free program. You can invite your grandkids over after school to have a free dinner with you. Just tell them not to bring more than three friends.

Pick a Holiday Inn where they allow pets, and your best friend can keep you company as well. If you want to travel, but are a bit skittish about unfamiliar surroundings, you'll always feel at home because wherever you go, the rooms all look the same. And if you're getting a little absent-minded in your old days, you never have to worry about not finding your room -- your electronic key fits only one door and the helpful bellman or desk clerk is on duty 24/7.

Being natural skeptics, we called a Holiday Inn to check out the feasibility of my plan. I'm happy to report that they were positively giddy at the idea of us checking in for a year or more. They even offered to negotiate the rate. We could have easily knocked them down to $40 a night!

So, when I reach the golden age I'll face it with a grin.

After days of silence - a remedy

Homemade remedies, anyone?!

I have one! I got this from Benny Hinn's programme when Dr. Colbert appeared on the show.

Common Cold vs. Garlic

Ps. Benny related how he used Garlic to get rid of his common cold, while the Doc nodded his head. Well, I've tried this a couple of times already and it worked!

This is what I do is when I feel a cold comming on, I just pop in to my mouth a single clove of garlic before I go to bed at night (I wouldn't dare to continue this during the day) and bite it a bit every now and then. I would swallow only the juice. I brush my teeth and gargle extra special in the morning but my head is cleared and no more cold. If the cold still persist I do this for another night and that's about it.

Please leave a comment to tell me how it worked for you or to suggest a less extreme measure for common cold. You can suggest one for other ailments too like a homemade remedy for blackheads; yes, that will do fine for me. Ha!

Electricity

The electricity is out again here in Shillong, and I'm updating my blog from my a cyber cafe. There has been some load shedding by the Meghalaya State Electricity Board (MeSEB) since there has not been only very little rain. Our electricity is hydro-electricity so if it doesn't rain this will continue.

On top of that the political arena here is fluctuating and the MeSEB is threatening 24 hours electricity cut out if the Chief Minister doesn't change his mind over an appointment of Mr Basely (who is of retirement age) as chief of a new government institution. I don't want to get into political writings yet but you can go to The Shillong Times's website to check on this. There has already been an office picketing by the Khasi Students' Union (KSU) lasting three days and ended yesterday.

So if the lights go out there will be no postings for some days. Anyway bye for now.

In our search we would most probably come across this blog: blogfresh.blogspot.com. Visitors to this blog scan to find the tutorial/s on how to get a category feature on their Blogger blogs using a http://del.icio.us/ account. And now thanks to the hard work of the bloggers of that blog we can now use Freshtags v. 0.5.

Watch less TV 2

An update on my try to watch less tv post I made before.

The 21 day challenge is still on, though it has been hard to completely let go of tv but I have made some progress, I'm reading more and praying too.

I'm reminded of the following Scripture: "12 Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence {and} awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ). 13 [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure {and} satisfaction {and} delight." Paul to the Phillipians chapter 2 verses 12-13 (from the Amplified Bible)

I somehow feel so favoured, no I am favoured and strengthened by God as I tackle some of the crazyness in my own life. I find this out as I pray and as the Holy Spirit reminds of Scriptures as the one above. I never thought before that I have to work out my own salvation (verse 12) not in my own strength but by God's very own empowerment (verse 13). I have read these two verses before but never in context with each other. I feel so relieved, God himself is effectually working in me...

Prayer:Lord, strengthen me. Effectually work in me to will and to work for Your good pleasure, delight and satisfaction. I rely on You to strengthen me. You are my refuge. Thank you.

These fit in well too: "14 Do all things without grumbling {and} faultfinding {and} complaining [against God] and questioning {and} doubting [among yourselves], 15 That you may show yourselves to be blameless {and} guileless, innocent {and} uncontaminated, children of God without blemish (faultless, unrebukable) in the midst of a crooked {and} wicked generation [spiritually perverted and perverse], among whom you are seen as bright lights (stars or beacons shining out clearly) in the [dark] world, 16 Holding out [to it] {and} offering [to all men] the Word of Life, so that in the day of Christ I may have something of which exultantly to rejoice {and} glory in that I did not run my race in vain or spend my labor to no purpose." Phillipians 2: 14-16

A computer for my friends

The internet has been slow lately and I'm typing this in Notepad so I can post later. It takes about 5-10 mins to open the Post page on Blogger.

Any way, this morning I went with two of my very best friends to an Importer-Exporter and placed an order for a computer. The computer's for them. They choose a Compaq-Presario machine (with a free HP printer worth Rs. 2999) but the UPS has to be bought seperately.

The total cost - Rs. 31200 + 2200. My friends are happy with the deal. I'm happy too. The delivery is tomorrow.

Try to watch less TV

I want to watch no TV at all for 21 days - at home. And I have tried to do this since the 6th of April, 2006. I read that it takes 21 days (3 weeks) to break a habit and create a new one (may be I'll read more or something in stead of wasting hours watching TV). So I'm taking a 21 days challenge of watching no tv at all at my own home. If I'm at my friends place, I'll just politely ask them to turn off the tv or ... (we'll see!). So all the best to me.

What happens after 21 days? I'll have to work on an action plan.

Action No. 17 on wearewhatwedo.org is Try to watch less TV, and that's what I'm doing. The are 5879 people who have done this so far as listed on there and they're growing. And the last time I check there were 25 people at http://www.43things.com/ (not including me) who want to watch less tv.

Also, when I surf the blogosphere through Blog Clicker, Blog Exchange, Blog Explosion or Blog Traffic I sometimes read the first few posted displayed on the person's blog, if I like the blog I bookmark it to visit later.

I also use Technorati's Watchlist.

Recently I downloaded and installed RSSReader and it automatically gets the updates from the feeds I have saved which is cool but I still have to surf the net to find more blogs to read.

Well, I've joined a couple of paid to read websites. Of course, there are a lot of scams on the net and it's hard to identify which once they are! When I get paid from the I'll list them on the blog.

Why am I doing this? I don't know, I think I'm facinated by the prospect of getting paid for using the internet. So all the best to me and to any one out there who want to earn from the net!

If you're looking to join paid to read programmes on the net remember they're slow earning, don't think that you'll become rich over night. Don't join too many of them, it might get confusing.

To forgive people who won't forgive you is more difficult, what can one do? Should we try to reconcile? ... No wait a minute we're talking about when we have done something to hurt others (by mistake! of course - as some would have it). So, are we brave enough to go and ask forgiveness from that person and even repay if possible.

Let us be brave friend, what if he/she forgives and even forgets?

Forgiving people for the hurt that they have done to you is hard, yes – but if we want to experience peace in our lives this becomes most important. In forgiving people on purpose and loving them on purpose, you become the better person. You have the power to stop strife at its beginning, to change a situation around from bad to redemptive and even gain a friend instead of an enemy in the process. This brings a whole new dimension to life, don’t you think?

I came in for work this morning but could not enter the press where I am helping out because we were robbed. I wasn't sure what was hapenning but when the police came it was confirmed that we were robbed, over Rs. 20,000 was stollen.

I just read a touching story and I got teary eyes reading it. If you are a member of http://www.christianster.com/ you can read it under Sharing, it was posted by abie. For the rest of you guys here it is:

"You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine"
(Be prepared to get watery eyes!)

Like any good mother, when Karen found out that
another baby was on the way, she did what she could to help her 3-year-old son,
Michael, prepare for a new sibling. They found out that the new baby was going
be a girl, and day after day, night after night, Michael sang to his sister in
mommy's tummy. He was building a bond of love with his little sister before he
even met her.

The pregnancy progressed normally for Karen,
an active member of the Panther Creek United Methodist Church in Morristown,
Tennessee. In time, the labor pains came. Soon it was every five minutes, every
three,every minute. But serious complications arose during delivery and Karen
found herself in hours of labor. Would a C-section be required?

Finally, after a long struggle, Michael's
little sister was born. But she was in very serious condition. With a siren
howling in the night, the ambulance rushed the infant to the neonatal intensive
care unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Knoxville,Tennessee. The days inched by. The
little girl got worse. The pediatrician had to tell the parents there is very
little hope. Be prepared for the worst. Karen and her husband contacted a local
cemetery about a burial plot. They had fixed up a special room in their house
for their new baby but now they found themselves having to plan for a funeral.
Michael, however, kept begging his parents to let him see his sister. I want to
sing to her, he kept saying.

Week two in intensive care looked as if a
funeral would come before the week was over. Michael kept nagging about singing
to his sister, but kids are never allowed in Intensive Care. Karen decided to
take Michael whether they liked it or not. If he didn't see his sister right
then, he may never see her alive.

She dressed him in an oversized scrub suit
and marched him into ICU. He looked like a walking laundry basket. The head
nurse recognized him as a child and bellowed,"Get that kid out of here now. No
children are allowed."

The mother rose up strong in Karen, and the
usually mild-mannered lady glared steel-eyed right into the head nurse's face,
her lips a firm line."He is not leaving until he sings to his sister" she
stated. Then Karen towed Michael to his sister's bedside. He gazed at the tiny
infant losing the battle to live. After a moment, he began to sing.

In the pure-hearted voice of a 3-year-old,
Michael sang:"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when
skies are gray. "Instantly the baby girl seemed to respond. The pulse rate began
to calm down and become steady.

"Keep on singing, Michael," encouraged Karen
with tears in her eyes."You never know, dear, how much I love you, please don't
take mysunshine away." As Michael sang to his sister, the baby's ragged,
strained breathing became as smooth as a kitten's purr.

"Keep on singing, sweetheart." "The other
night, dear, as I lay sleeping, I dreamed I held you in my arms". Michael's
little sister began to relax as rest, healing rest, seemed to sweep over her.
"Keep on singing, Michael."

Tears had now conquered the face of the bossy
head nurse. Karen glowed. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. Please don't
take my sunshine away..."The next, day...the very next day... the little girl
was well enough to go home.

Woman's Day Magazine called it The Miracle of
a Brother's Song.
The medical staff just called it a
Miracle.
Karen called it a miracle of God's
Love.

The electricity is out, I'm making this post from my cousin's cyber cafe. The lights are out here too but he has batteries.

I got a call last night for the job interview at the car dealership, it seems the meeting is today at 5:30 in the afternoon.

Anyway here are two true stories that touched me very much:

He got Save under a tree

One of our pastors told us this story last Sunday. There was a man from a village (Pastor didn't tell which village) who climbed a tree to pick some fruits (perhaps oranges-this time of the year-Pastor didn't tell us which fruit either) when he heard someone, at the nearby river, sing a hymn. God touched him there and he climbed down and cried under the tree (he got saved there, he wasn't even a Christian). Now he is serving God in the church at his home village.

I praise God for this. Halleluyah.

She is healed of AIDS

This too was shared by one of our pastors. There was a lady who had been affected by the AIDS virus. (Pastor did't tell us who she is only that she is a member of our Church here in Shillong). She came to talk to the pastor about this issue in her life. She ended up getting healed after prayer. Halleluyah.

I am not blogging as much as I think I should. I'll have a job interview next week, I pray I get it. Right now I'm working as a Desk Top Publishing guy at a super market. This is an interesting job but I seem to not have much time at hand for other stuffs like going out with friends, choir practice etc. The other job is at a car dealership, I think I'll make more time if I get the job there. They pay more too. But I don't think they will provide internet connection. So I'll have to use a Cyber Cafe.

Jonah knows

How much does God love us?

People who know Him personally should know the answer to that question.

If you would put the above question to Jonah of the Bible, would he know?

Investigating Jonah's experience will be productive in answering the question.

Let me relate some part of the story below:

All Jonah was supposed to do was "go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before"¹ God but he went the opposite direction towards Tarshish. We all know what happens after this. A storm came and Jonah ended up being thrown overboard a ship. He was swallowed by a big fish. He repented in the fish's stomach.

After his fish experience Jonah went to Nineveh and "proclaimed: "Forty more days and Nineveh will be overturned.""² The whole of Nineveh repented when they heard this.

You will notice that God "had compassion and did not bring... the destruction he had threatened" upon Nineveh after they had "turned from their evil ways".³

Then the Bible says "Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry. He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. Now, O LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."⁴

How much did God love the citizen of Nineveh? A whole lot, since He sent Jonah to warn them of the coming destruction.

Jonah on the other hand fled to Tarshish because "knew that" God is "a gracious and compasionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity"⁵ He wasn't concerned about the people of Nineveh, instead, I think he was more concerned over what people would think of him when what he has spoken would not come to pass, since God is so gracious. Can you believe it - Jonah gets angry at God and argues God over this.

I mean, if I was a preacher and the whole city turned to God because of just one statement that I made then it would make me very happy not angry at God. I would be gloating somewhat when I pray to God that night. But no not Jonah.

So God had to teach Jonah a lesson: "But the LORD replied, "Have you any right to be angry?"

Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city. Then the LORD God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine. But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered. When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."

But God said to Jonah, "Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?"

"I do," he said. "I am angry enough to die."

But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?""⁶

So, again, if we ask Jonah about God's love for us, he would know.

Friend, whatever you think of me should not concern me much, but your answer to the above question is something that I am very concerned about.

God loves you very much! It may be a surprise to find out, but He is full of love, grace and mercy toward you. Yes, the Bible says that we deserve worse and worser still for our sins but the same Bible says that God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die as a ransom for us; to give us a free gift, a chance at freedom from the coming destruction of our lives, i.e death and hell that we deserve as sinners.

Did you know that you can stand before the Almighty God right now with an strong assurance that all you sins are forgiven, and have a real personal relationship with Him?

If you wants this in your life then pray the following prayer and mean it:

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, "Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Acts 2:21). I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord over my life according to Romans 10:9-10. "If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." I do that now. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead.

What next?
- Tell someone else what happened to you just now.
- Attend a church regularly and stay committed.
- Get yourself a Bible and study it.
- Learn more about walking with God and practice what you learnt.

Today, I'm tired of spam, those people writing me to help them for a lot of money. I know they are lying, they know they are lying, but they don't seem to want to stop. Where did they get my email anyway? Oh! I think that was my mystake. My advice to people: Don't post or submit your email on any website that you are not familiar with or seems unsecured. May be you should have more than one email address if you still want to give away you email. Use one for personal stuffs and the others for anything else.

And today, I'm tired of pride. Mine and yours. Let us sing a different song people, let us follow the example of Jesus'.

Yeah today, I'm tired of politics too, where are all the leaders and statesmen?

I'm also just tired today, but Pigeon John says "Life goes on", ah! yes I agree. Jesus come help me.

Be different!

Don't be different just for the sake of being different, it just annoys people unnecessarily. Be different to make a difference in the world. Look what Jesus did He changed the whole world and He wasn't the annoying little man everybody hated!

Steps to be different:
1. Follow Jesus
The first step you must take in order to be different is to follow Jesus. Make Him your Lord, your Saviour, your King, your Friend. Talk to Him. Be captivated by His awesome love. Fall in love with Him. Realise that your sins seperate you from a real relationship with God. Know that Jesus has already paid for your sins. Receive what Jesus has done for you. Commit yourself to living for Jesus.

2. Follow Jesus
Love like Jesus loved. Live like Jesus lived. Hate what Jesus hate. Give like Jesus gave. Because you can, He promised that you could and He'll be there to help you through your personal struggles.

3. Keep on following Jesus.
Nobody's promising that everything will magically be okay. No, there is a devil loose in the world and he is working hard to make you fall. So keep on following Jesus. Go to church, make Christian friend. Read the Bible and pray. Pray together with your Christian brothers and sisters. Keep on doing step number 2.

Yesterday I attended a wedding of a distant uncle at Massar Village. I went with my cousins and neices. The trip there was just 50-60 mins from Shillong. Approximately 2½ kms from from the village the tar road ended and we had to switch vehicles. We reached the village at about 1:15 and thought we were late. The village is at the bottom of a valley and the views are just grand. But we arrived just in time for the ceremony. The wedding was held at a school's small football ground.

After the wedding we had our meal at the bride's home. We left early and reached Shillong right after dark.

God bless Uncle P and Aunt T, their lives together.

What to do when you get hurt?

Someone passes a comment on you (or yours) intentionally or not - and you get hurt. What do you do?

You could try everything from cursing to physical assault but you won't find peace or release. That is a guaranteed fact.

Well, one evening as I was tossing in my bed, hurting, thinking, wondering, full of anxieties and crying out to God for help over words that could leave me depressed for days. For such hurtful words were spoken against me and me by a person I really liked. But then God answered me in a whisper (I know, I know just bear with me on this one) I heard Him say, "Bless the person who hurt you".

That caught my attention and I remembered that there is a Bible verse that goes something like that. So I searched my Bible and found Luke 6:28 that say "Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you." KJV (read also Luke 6:27, 35 and Matthew 5:44)

So I got up and started blessing this person. I stood up on a stool, raised my hands and blessed this person with as many blessings as I could think of at that time. I paced my room while blessing this person. Oh boy I had so much fun blessing this person. And I felt such release, such peace, such satisfaction, such joy that words can't explain. Wow! It still excites me.

Then I remembered a prayer in Colossians 1:19-13, I prayed that prayer by faith for this person. Then I then sent an sms to this person saying that I just prayed for them and then I was done.

The next time some hurts me whether they meant it or not I'm gonna bless them. And the next time I am about to say something that could hurt someone else I'll just change my mind.

I hope this helps you. (Keep in mind that this will work effectively only if you have a relationship with Jesus Christ)

It been 9 years for JfH. I discovered it only 2 years ago. I like this website because I am a Christian Music fan and it provides everything I need to know on my favourite bands and their music.

They feature interviews with bands and artists, a large artist database, music news, links, album previews and reviews, lyrics, independent music reviews, concert details, devotional and a lot more. It is such a great internet hangout place.

I like the Crazy Captions section very much, they always make me laugh.

JfH holds many contest too, but I've never won... yet.

How does it feel to be on the other side of this blog? You're reading it! Do you imaging what the other side would be like? Does it make you feel connected? Do you question whether I am a real person, sitting in front of a monitor and typing on the keyboard? Do you want to know who I am? What would you do if I ask you to be my friend? And when we do become friends, do you ask yourself will this guy stick to me closer than a brother? Would he sacrifice? Would he be there when I need him ... to be a friend? Because friendship is precious to you, you don't want to meet someone who would use you and then loose you. You may ask yourself will he be like that.

I want to be honest with you. I value friendship the same way you do too! If you were a friend of mine, and push came to shove, I would even die for you. But who am I to praise my own tail! And how would I prove it?

So, anyways let me get to my point? I have this to say about friendship: There is no one who will fit your definition of a perfect friend. What you must do is, find the best and perfect description of it, and leave yours behind. And when you do, you will know what a true friend is.

I think the best description of friendship is the life of Jesus, believe it. He fits everyone's description of a true friend. He was called a friend of sinners and he died for them. Open your mind to the possibilities that Jesus could bring to you life. Read about his life, you will find him reaching out to you with such glorious love that you can't explain it. The other side is so beautiful. And then you will have a choice: to follow him or not. If you do choose to follow him write me. I will be happy to hear.
